Clothes
Retro’s
really in vogue.
World-class designers are turning
to the past to inspire their
catwalk creations. Hardly a week
goes by without some pop icon
stepping back in time as they
strive for the 'look.'
So it's not surprising that
there's never been so much demand
for second-hand clothes. It's
amazing how much good-looking,
good-quality stuff is out there.
The days are long gone when 'old
clothes' meant granddad's
moth-eaten cardigan complete with
elbow patches.
And what's good for the pocket can
be great news for some excellent
charities too. Oxfam, Scope and
similar organizations are leading
collectors of used clothes, which
they sort and sell to raise
much-needed funds. Overseas aid is
another big beneficiary.
So why not do your bit? Dig out
all the stuff you know you’ll
never wear again. (Think of all
that extra space in your
wardrobe…)
If it's in decent condition:
• Take it to a charity shop. To
find those nearest you, check out
your local phone book.
• Take it to a clothes recycling
bank. Your local council can tell
you where these are.
• Donate it to a jumble sale.
Keep an eye out in the local press
and on local notice boards for
details of upcoming events.
There's no doubt about it –
it’s not just the fashion world
that benefits when you recycle
your unwanted clothes
